Genealogy Library - open by appointment only

Mahaska County Historical Society maintains a genealogy library in the museum at Nelson Pioneer Farm. Our genealogy library features numerous Mahaska County record books, family history books, area newspaper clippings, and interesting artifacts (i.e. letters from a Civil War captain to his bride describing his battles and life in the field). The library is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. during our regular season.

There is no admission fee to use our reading room. If our librarian conducts any research on your behalf, there is a $15 hourly fee for her time paid in advance.

Other fees include:

Scan with usage rights - $10 per image/document

B&W letter/legal copy - $.20 per copy

Color letter/legal copy - $.40 per copy

B&W 11" x 17" copy  - $.25 per copy
